Setting PAP2 / PAP2T for Freephoneline

Before you start configuring the adapter, make sure you have the following settings for your SIP account:

- SIP Server address (sometimes called SIP Proxy)
- SIP User ID (the phone number, with 1 in front of the area code)
- The password for the SIP account (a combination of letters and numbers)

To obtain these settings, you must contact Freephoneline and ask for your configuration file. There's a one time charge for this, currently $50 CAD + tax. They will send you a Word document with the settings.

Plug in the adapter (power, an Ethernet cable to your router and a phone into Line 1). Wait about 20 seconds then pick up the phone and dial ****110#. The adapter will read back (with voice) its IP address. Open a browser and enter that IP address. The Info page of the adapter will show up.

Fibernetics DID Outage | UPDATE

Fibernetics is experiencing an outage of all their London (Canada) DIDs. The outage started around noon on February 19th. All incoming calls either fail, or are presented with, "This number is not in service/not assigned."

My provider is Anveo, but I would imagine this affects anyone who uses Fibernetics as a CLEC, including Fongo/Freephoneline and Callcentric.

Anyone else affected by this outage?

LiveHive team joins Fibernetics (Freephoneline.ca)

CAMBRIDGE — The management team of LiveHive Systems, a Waterloo digital media startup, has joined Cambridge-based telecommunications company Fibernetics to run the division that provides the Freephoneline.ca service.

Under the acquisition deal, LiveHive’s management team, including president Dave Bullock and chief technology officer Jean-Pierre Bhavnani, has taken charge of Fongo Inc., a company owned by Fibernetics that runs the Freephoneline service. They retain their titles as president and chief technology officer respectively in Fongo.

John Stix, chief marketing officer of Fibernetics, said Freephoneline.ca has a base of about 100,000 users and is growing.

Under the service, people get a phone line through their computers. It allows them to call anywhere in Canada for free, receive calls, get voice mail and set up a “follow me” feature that allows them to get their incoming calls transferred to other phones. Right now, the service is primarily delivered over the computer, but the company will soon be launching smartphone applications as well.

The calls are free because the business gets its revenue from ads that appear on the top of the Freephoneline application on the computer.

Freephoneline.ca is down this morning

Does anyone else have issues with freephoneline ?

I have been having issues since yesterday. Today it is even worse.

Let's see who else has issues - since we had a similar situation not long ago, wonder if this is similar case.

Yes, it is still up and down since yesterday. ATA can't register once in a while.

FreePhoneLine reviews 2013

Good "Free, good quality, and good support"
Overall "It's an awesome deal"

There is not much to say when they give you a DID and unlimited calling for free. I dumped the POTS and bought my own ATA for $30 and paid $50 for the configuration file. I find the $50 config file more than reasonable considering I get a DID, unlimited calling, voice mail and caller id for $0 a month.

Their support is great, the forum is very useful, very easy to get in touch with and they are always there to help.

With the ATA, the voice quality is perfect. Didn't have a problem after constantly trying different numbers to stress-test it for a week. In fact, it's better than my cellphone and as good as a post line.

I read before that some people had trouble getting the config file or had to wait up to a week, but when I called, they activated it on my online account right away and I had access to the password before the call to purchase the file even ended.

All in all, zero problems, 0 monthly fees and a perfectly working line makes me more than happy!

Edit after several months:
Aside from a few small bugs that they're trying to iron out after a server upgrade (VM indicator won't turn off on my phone, for example), it's still working great, line quality never had any trouble and the price is still $0
